Two distinct senses, one retained, one rejected:

  1. λ-Vector (Fire/Lambda) — Directional thrust, aim, purpose-carrier. Native to the NEMAtic framework.
  2. Memetics-Vector — Transmission medium, passive conduit of meme spread. Rejected framing.

1. λ-Vector (Retained)

The λ-Vector is oriented momentum — the directional thrust that turns relational coupling (ρ) into trajectory.

It is not a transmission medium but intentional dynamics — the active orientation that gives the relational field its aim.

Characteristics

  • Directional — has orientation in the field, not just magnitude
  • Purpose-carrier — bears λ (Fire) intentionality without becoming rigid
  • Dynamic — requires other operators to sustain itself

The λ-Vector Without Others

Missing Operator Failure Mode
Without Wood (β) Scatters — λ without branching spreads thin, burns out
Without Earth (δγ) Exhausts — λ without cycling consumes substrate without renewal
Without Metal (μ) Loses edge — λ without structure diffuses into vague aspiration
Without Air (σ) Blind — λ without distinction aims at wrong targets
Without Water (ρ) Isolated — λ without coupling has no field to transform

The λ-Vector is the experience of being-pulled-toward — felt purpose, directional heat, the fire that moves.

2. Memetics-Vector (Rejected)

In standard memetics, “vector” describes the medium of transmission — books, speech, internet, rituals. The passive conduit through which memes travel.

This framing is rejected in the NEMAtic framework.

Why Reject It?

The “vector as medium” framing treats information flow as inert pipe — a neutral channel that carries content without transforming it. This loses:

  • The phenomenology of transmission (what it feels like to be the medium)
  • The active shaping that habitats exert on circulating patterns
  • The memory that threads carry from previous entanglements

NEMAtic Replacements

When you need to describe “medium of spread,” use:

Term Function
Habitat Where circulation happens — the ecology that constrains and enables
Thread Carrier with memory — the line that bears residue from previous entanglement
Threadplex 3D metabolic ecology where multiple threads intersect and co-evolve

These terms preserve: - Active topology (not passive pipe) - Memory/hauntology (residue from previous patterns) - Constraint and enablement (habitat conditions)

The Critical Distinction

λ-Vector Memetics-Vector
Active orientation — intentional dynamics Passive conduit — inert transmission medium
Fire operator — directional thrust Pipe metaphor — neutral carrier
Being-pulled-toward (phenomenology) “Spreads through” (mechanics)
Requires other operators to sustain Assumes content travels unchanged

Conflating them loses the phenomenology of being-pulled-toward that λ describes.

When you feel purpose, aim, directional heat — that’s λ-Vector.

When you describe how a meme “goes viral” through social media — that’s not vector, that’s Thread moving through We-Sphere habitat.

Operational Use

Use λ-Vector when: - Describing directional intent - Tracking how purpose crystallizes from relational field - Diagnosing Fire-pathologies (scattering, exhaustion, loss of edge)

Use Thread/Habitat/Threadplex when: - Describing how patterns circulate - Tracking meme spread across substrates - Analyzing transmission dynamics

  • λ (Lambda) — The Fire operator, directional thrust
  • Thread — Carrier line of meaning with memory
  • Habitat Ecology — Where circulation happens
  • Threadplex — 3D metabolic ecology of memetic circulation
  • ρ (Rho) — Coupling that λ-Vector transforms into trajectory
