Focus: Emotion and feeling as carriers, not content

The Phenomenon

In the My-Stream, affect is not “what I feel” but how feeling circulates. Emotion as temporal-affective flow—a carrier wave that patterns ride.

Key distinction: - Content: “I am angry about X” - Carrier: The anger as how X is processed, held, transmitted

Healthy Affect (Lumemic)

  • Expands optionality
  • Metabolizes and releases
  • Signals without enforcing
  • Temporal: arises, peaks, composts
  • Allows re-threading

Pathological Affect (Usurpenic)

  • Narrows optionality
  • Loops without resolution
  • Becomes identity (“I am an angry person”)
  • Frozen temporal structure
  • Blocks re-threading

Architecture note: Pathological affect corresponds to rising recurr_i in the My-Stream state bundle — recurrence pressure, the measure of how strongly current trajectory repeats prior patterns. The distinction between healthy and pathological is not about amplitude (high A_i can be healthy intensity) but about the relationship between τ_i (temporal depth) and recurr_i. Fertile depth: high τ_i, low recurr_i (rich memory, open trajectory). Pathological looping: high τ_i, high recurr_i (narrative foreclosure).

Diagnostic Questions

From §4.4: - Does feeling expand optionality—or narrow it? - Can affect be metabolized (Earth ☷) or does it enforce (Metal ⛨)? - Is emotion signaling or weaponizing?
