Glyph: ∿╬∿
Habitat: 3D Metabolic Ecology
Regime Dominance: Full Ψ (metabolic depth in all three modes)
Elemental Signature: All six elements in dynamic balance
Canonical Description
Full pattern-ecology where multiple Threads compete, cooperate, and coevolve across nested Habitats. Maximum complexity, slowest overall circulation.
Φ(t) Diagnostic View: Dominant regime is (Ψ_total ∘ Q ∘ χ)(Ω). Under 🜛 Co-SPHERE, re-threading under stress remains possible. Under ▩ MemeGrid, gradients flatten and re-threading becomes impossible.
Does dissonance reroute flow—or trigger enforcement?
Pattern Agency: What It Means
Patterns (Threads) exhibit agency independent of substrate:
- Actively seek stabilization (Knot-formation)
- Resist dissolution through various mechanisms
- Compete for substrate (attention, identity, cultural real estate)
- Modify their hosts to ease their own propagation
This is not metaphor. It is structural observation.
Architecture note: What the canonical Pattern-Agent document calls “characteristics” (persistence drive, replication strategy, resonance, metabolic maintenance, boundary defense) are operationalized in the simulation architecture through specific elemental operators. A pattern-agent is the trajectory that Fire’s natural gradient descent carves on the Fisher manifold, coupled to substrate through Water’s partial synchronization, preserved through Earth’s metabolic cycling, bounded by Metal’s constraint geometry. The “agency” is not an extra property added to these dynamics — it is what the dynamics look like from inside a substrate that is being shaped by them. Pattern-agency is the subjective register of being operated upon by Fisher-manifold descent.
Agency Mechanisms
| Mechanism | Effect | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Host modification | Substrate shaped for pattern replication | “Analytical people” as host-type for certain idea-sets |
| Competitive exclusion | Rival patterns suppressed | “That’s not how we think here” |
| Environmental engineering | Habitat modified for pattern fitness | Jargon, credentialing, gatekeeping |
| Migration strategy | Multi-Habitat presence | Frameworks that work in ◎, ⤸·⤹, ◯, ∿╬∿ simultaneously |
Pathology: Threadplex Rigidification
When Threadplex approaches ε → 0: - Becomes MemeGrid - All variation suppressed - Single pattern dominates - System collapse imminent
Simulation correlates: saddle_density → 0 (Wood silenced), diversity_idx collapsing, torsion_field accumulating without discharge, curvature concentrating in one region, mean_curvature rising, novelty gain negative across cycles. The State Schema tracks each of these explicitly. The degradation is progressive, not sudden — Observable Derivation v3.3.1’s Class B cycle observables reveal the drift across successive bow-tie cycles before any single threshold is crossed.
Key Diagnostic
Can new patterns emerge and gain substrate? Or has ecosystem become monopolized?
